Two Chicago Workers Injured in Food Processing Plant Fire

Food Processing

In April of 2026, multiple sources reported that two workers had suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a food processing plant. The fire marks yet another disaster at an Illinois factory, and we have seen many of these incidents over the past few years and months. If you were injured in a Chicago factory accident, consider contacting an experienced Chicago workers’ compensation lawyer for further guidance.

Food Processing Machine Sparks Major Fire

Officials say that this fire started after a food processing machine ignited at the 300-acre food processing facility. Although first responders were quick to arrive at the scene, two employees suffered burn injuries and had to be hospitalized by paramedics. A firefighter also suffered minor burn injuries while responding to the inferno and trying to save employees from harm.

According to AB7 Eyewitness News, the rest of the employees managed to escape from harm. The facility in question is reportedly involved in extracting oil from corn germ, and one would assume that the oil is highly flammable. While the source of the fire appears to be the aforementioned machinery, the authorities are continuing to investigate the root cause of the inferno.

Fortunately, both employees and the firefighters are expected to fully recover. It is not clear whether any of them suffered disfiguring burns or any permanent disabilities as a result of this accident. That being said, one source later reported that the two employees had suffered “second-degree facial burns.” Images from the scene show smoke billowing from the facility as firefighters use hoses to control the spread of the fire.

How to Pursue Compensation for Second-Degree Burns

Workers should consider their full range of legal options when recovering from second-degree facial burns. While these burns are not as serious as first-degree burns, doctors still take them very seriously. Prompt medical attention is essential, especially in order to avoid permanent scarring.

While workers’ compensation is a viable way to cover medical bills and lost earnings, it is important to remember that this insurance coverage does not cover non-economic (psychological) damages. As a result, it may be impossible to pursue additional compensation for the psychological effects of permanent burn-related scars.

A personal injury lawsuit may be possible after a work-related fire, especially if the blaze was started by some kind of defective product or machinery. This is something you may want to explore with an experienced workers’ compensation lawyer in Chicago.

Can a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer in Chicago Help Me?

If you were injured in a Chicago factory fire, an auto plant accident, or any other type of work-related incident, you deserve full compensation through the workers’ comp program. Denied claims and other challenges can make this compensation harder for you and your family to recover. You might also be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit for additional compensation.
