Illinois Construction Worker Hit By Semi-Truck on Route 3

_CZone

Construction laborers face serious hazards when working on highways, and the extent of this threat was made clear by a recent accident on Route 3. Officials say that a worker was struck by a semi-truck in this incident, although the exact details are not quite clear. If a traffic accident of this nature hurt you or someone you love, consider discussing your options with an experienced workers’ compensation lawyer in Chicago.

Semi-Truck Crashes into Construction Zone

Officials say that in early August of 2025, a semi-truck crashed into a construction zone on Route 3. The incident occurred in Alexander County, and it resulted in a serious injury to at least one worker. In total, the accident injured and hospitalized two individuals – although it is not clear who the second person is. It may be the semi-truck driver, as the vehicle reportedly barreled into a trailer during the same accident.

Truckers Often Fail to Brake When Approaching Construction Zones

Truckers operate lumbering, heavy vehicles with poor handling and even worse braking systems. By the time a trucker spots a construction zone up ahead, it is often already too late for them to slam on the brakes and avoid a collision. While a smaller vehicle driving down the highway is capable of stopping within a hundred feet, a semi-truck usually takes twice as long to come to a complete stop.

To make matters even worse, semi-trucks often approach construction zones due to their involvement in the project. These vehicles may be delivering gravel, rebar, lumber, and other materials. Trucks might also arrive to help carry away junk, chunks of concrete, and other construction materials. All of this means that workers are actually quite vulnerable to impacts from semi-trucks.

Even when trucks are traveling very slowly within construction zones, they are capable of causing catastrophic or fatal injuries to workers. For example, a dump truck might reverse into a construction worker pouring or leveling concrete. Due to the noise of traffic and construction machinery, workers may never hear these slow-moving trucks until it is too late.

Can a Workers’ Compensation Claim Cover My Damages After a Construction Accident?

A workers’ compensation claim should cover your medical expenses and the majority of your missed earnings (both past and future). Your claim might also provide vocational rehabilitation, which allows you to train for a new job free of charge if you have suffered a career-altering disability. In the case of a fatal accident, a family’s claim can provide death benefits and coverage for the funeral.

Can a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer in Chicago Help Me?

A workers’ compensation lawyer in Chicago may be able to guide your family toward meaningful compensation. A traffic accident can drastically alter the life of a construction worker, and families should not have to face unreasonable financial burdens in the aftermath. Fortunately, the workers’ compensation system in Illinois allows you to pursue coverage for medical bills, missed future earnings, and (in the case of a fatality) funeral costs.
