Yet Another Workplace Shooting Reported in Chicago

WorkersComp6

On June 4th, 2026, NBC Chicago reported that a shooting had occurred at an Amazon facility in Chicago. This is the latest incident in a string of similar recent workplace shootings that have occurred across Chicago and Illinois. If you were injured in one of these shootings or you lost a loved one, consider your legal options alongside an experienced Chicago workers’ compensation lawyer.

Chicago Amazon Worker Targeted Co-Worker After “Personal Dispute”

Officials say that the recent shooting at a Chicago Amazon facility occurred after a “personal dispute” between two workers became violent. The assailant reportedly fired upon the 27-year-old employee, who suffered critical injuries that claimed his life. Although first responders rushed him to Loyola University Hospital as quickly as possible, doctors could not save him.

The shooter fled the scene after the shooting, leaving behind two shell casings. Authorities quickly confirmed that no one else was injured at the facility, despite the fact that there were 60 workers present at the time. When multiple rounds are discharged, it is all too easy to imagine how some of these employees might have been struck by crossfire.

Days later, sources reported that the authorities had successfully tracked down the shooter and charged him with murder. Officials also revealed that the shooter used a semi-automatic rifle, implying that the murder may have been premeditated. Police officers also noted that the murder seemed to be related to a domestic dispute between the two men outside of work.

Shootings at Amazon Facilities Are Nothing New

Shootings at Amazon facilities in Illinois are nothing new. In 2022, a similar incident occurred at a warehouse in Matteson. This particular incident was not fatal, although it also involved an employee coming under fire. In 2024, an employee-related shooting occurred at the same Matteson facility. In this incident, a 33-year-old female employee was grazed by a bullet to her head. Police said that this was a targeted, retaliatory strike after a physical fight in the parking lot that night.

Shootings at Amazon facilities are also quite common across the nation. In 2022, an Amazon contractor was shot and killed by an assailant outside an Amazon parking lot in Arizona. Another worker returned fire and managed to prevent further tragedy. In 2024, another workplace dispute escalated into gunfire and resulted in the death of another Amazon employee. In 2025, two workers got into an altercation, and once again, an employee died by gunfire. Earlier this year in 2026, gunfire broke out inside an Amazon facility in Texas, leaving one dead and another critically injured.
