Another Fatal Amazon Shooting Reported in Chicago

Fatal shootings are becoming a worrying trend at Amazon facilities in Illinois. The latest shooting has left yet another worker dead, and police say that it occurred in the parking lot of a facility in a Chicago suburb after a verbal dispute. Amazon Employee and Food Delivery Driver Argue Before Shots Fired 

Local police in the Chicago suburb of Matteson say that the shooting stemmed from a verbal exchange between a food delivery driver and an Amazon employee. This verbal altercation then became physical before escalating to gunfire. After the discharge of multiple rounds, one worker suffered fatal wounds. Like so many similar incidents at Amazon facilities, this shooting occurred in the parking lot.

Subsequent police reports shed further light on the incident. According to local authorities, the shooter was the food delivery driver, and this assailant successfully fled the scene after firing upon the Amazon employee. First responders arrived at the scene to find the Amazon worker with “multiple gunshot wounds,” and although they attempted to save the 27-year-old’s life, they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Amazon subsequently noted with great care that the victim was not an Amazon employee, but rather a “third-party vendor.” Amazon frequently classifies its delivery workers as such for various legal and financial benefits, including the potential to avoid workers’ comp obligations.

Second Amazon Shooting in Less Than a Month

On June 4th of 2026, a similar incident played out at another Amazon facility in Chicago. This incident involved one Amazon worker targeting another individual due to a personal dispute, shooting him twice and killing him. In this case, the shooter used a semi-automatic rifle. The fact that two Amazon warehouse shootings have occurred in the space of less than a month indicates that aggression and violence have become common features of these workplaces.

With altercations spiraling into gunfire so often, Amazon must address this pattern before it gets out of control. The same Matteson facility has seen workplace shootings on many prior occasions, including an incident in 2022 and another incident in 2024. Shootings at Amazon facilities across the entire nation are also quite common, with multiple deaths confirmed over the years.
